Resort and location: Majestic Colonial Resort and Spa, Dominican Republic
Wedding Date: May 6, 2010
Travel dates: May 1-8, 2010
Gazebo. This was much more personal and had shade for our guests since it was 32 degrees and felt like 40.
Our reception was in a private location. We rented the presidential suite overlooking the ocean. We had a buffet dinner and did a mini bar option which was $5pp + 26% tax/per hour (which included beer, wine, water, and juices). We bought our own liquor and wine from a duty free in Toronto and they didn’t charge me a corkage fee per bottle as we had only 10 bottles. Each bartender I believe was $15 per hour. The reception had to end at 11pm. We rented DJ Mannia (this made our party even more fun he was a hit with our guests).
Wedding colors: Mango, orange.
Wedding Dress and Attire:
I wore a mermaid dress that was heavy, but worth it as I feel in love with this dress. It was defiantly not a destination dress. My sisters wore this beautiful mango dresses that were knee length and perfect for the weather. My husband wore beige dress pants and jacket with just a light dress shirt as it is very hot. He only wore the jacket for the ceremony only. Our groomsmen wore beige dress pants and flip flops with a white light dress shirt.
I spoke with Yadilis, our wedding coordinator, via email and when we got to the resort Sandra was the one who helped me. Both were extremely helpful and made the day turn out really nice. I would recommend bringing pictures as they don’t have anything much when you get there. I brought a picture with what I wanted my bouquet to look like and they did a fantastic job. Also, my best friend knew how I wanted things to look like as she saw all my pictures. On the wedding day she spoke with Sandra and made sure all was right and executed well. I basically handed Sandra my favors, our seating chart with place card settings and she did everything.
Wedding Photographer and Feedback:
Phil Steingard: Based out of Toronto. http://www.steingardstudios.com
Phil is very well known at the Majestic Colonial and the Elegance and there was no extra fee to have him on the resort or have him eat dinner with us at our reception. Our pictures were phenomenal and the best investment both Kevin and I made. He added a lot to our day and made everything flow much easier. He was a blast at our reception and our guests really liked him. Phil is very friendly and outgoing individual.
Wedding Flowers and Decor:
All flowers were provided by the resort. I would recommend other brides to bring down pictures of what they want as they don’t have many pictures there at the resort. I loved my bouquet, the boutonnieres for the men and the corsages for the women. However, I was not crazy about my sister’s flowers. I think this could have been better if I would have brought down pictures of what I wanted their flowers to look like.
Wedding Dance and DJ:
DJ Mannia. He was recommended by our photographer as they have done several weddings together. I believe we did have to pay a fee to have him and his crew at the resort and he is operating in the Dominican Republic. He did an awesome job with the music and us having a great party. He brought out balloons and our guests had a hoot with them. I also brought glow in the dark necklaces and stir sticks for our beverages that looked neat at night time.
We ended up buying Rum, Cigars and Mamajuana from the Dominican. FYI: All of our guests that flew/or had a stop over into the States had there Mamajuana confiscated because it is illegal there. Some actually where able to bring it back if they opened the rum and put it into the Mamajuana. Mamajuana is Dominican drink but when you buy it the wood chips are dry which is not legal in the US but if they are soaked in rum its fine.
Wedding guest welcome gifts:
We gave our guests gifts when they got back. We had our photographer take professional couple/individual pictures of our guests and put it in a frame for them as our gifts.
Why did you pick the Majestic Colonial for your wedding?
I picked this location because I read great reviews from the Facebook forum (majestic colonial brides) and trip advisor. Many people I know have stayed at this resort and all had positive things to say. It does have one of the largest outdoor swimming pools in all the Caribbean which all my guests loved as some were pool people and not beach people. The food was great, people were family, resort was family friendly, and the beach was to die for. We loved all of it.
Best moment of the wedding:
Walking down the aisle and seeing my husband was my favorite moment. I honestly felt the whole day was amazing. Being somewhere beautiful and having the day go by so smoothly without any stress made this experience for me unforgettable.
Group Activities during our stay:
Zip Line: friends went and said they had a blast
San Domingo: guests loved this tour. Long bus ride though
Shark/sting ray: we enjoyed.
